The laboratory was established in 1962 in the structure of the Canning Research Institute of Plovdiv for the research purposes of the organization. Currently, the Food Testing Laboratory is a nationally accredited body in the Food Research and Development Institute (former Canning Research Institute) of Plovdiv.
With Certificate No.32-A/20.12.1994 of the Committee on Standards and Metrology it was accredited to perform tests on canned food, drinks and other foodstuffs, water and cosmetics, and in 1997 and 2001 it was re-accredited for the same tests by the EA “BAS” according to the criteria of BDS EN 45001:1993.
In 2003, the laboratory was re-accredited under BDS EN ISO / IEC 17025:2001, and since 2008 it was re-accredited by EA "BAS" according to the criteria of BDS EN ISO / IEC 17025:2006 with Certificate 18 LI to make tests of:
- Canned foods: meat and vegetable, vegetable, fruit
- Children and dietetic foods
- Food dry concentrates
- Pulps and ready-to-cook products
- Food additives and seasonings
- Dried fruits and vegetables
- Dried herbs and teas
- Vegetable oils
- Mayonnaise and mayonnaise products
- Cooled and frozen foods
- Non-alcoholic drinks – fizzy and non-fizzy
- Sugar and confectionary products
- Waters – drinking and mineral
- Cosmetics
- Milk and dairy products
- Bread, bread products and pasta
- Nuts and oilseeds
- Hygiene status (washings) of working surfaces and personnel by physicochemical, spectral, microbiological and sensory parameters.
The Food Testing Laboratory has highly qualified specialists in the areas of food physics, food chemistry, food microbiology and sensory analysis. The laboratory is equipped with modern equipment for accurate and precise testing of food, drinks, water, cosmetics, soil, vegetable raw materials and determination of their shelf life.
In the former practice of the Food Testing Laboratory no objections and complaints from its customers and from its Accreditation body have been found.
